Emergency Declaration 2024-01 Declaring a State of Emergency relative to inadequate water supply for Pohnpei

Please find posted below, Emergency Declaration 2024-01, signed by Governor Stevenson A. Joseph on Friday, January 12, 2024, declaring a state of emergency relative to inadequate water supply for the main island of Pohnpei including the outer islands due to very dry conditions from the effect of El Nino weather conditions.

The declaration orders the following:

1. All Schools shall be on half day schedule for students only, until further notice.

2. Daily reports to the Governor will be provided on developing strategies to address the pressing urgent need to have water supply available to the communities, prioritizing schools, hospitals and homebound Individuals with disabilities and senior citizens.

3. All applicable financial management, public service system regulations, statutes and rules are waived to the extent necessary to effectuate the purpose of the declaration.
