KOLONIA, Pohnpei, FSM: October 7, 2024 — Governor Stevenson A. Joseph warmly welcomed Mr. Teruki Furukawa, representing Dai Nippon Construction (DNC), during a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office this week. Mr. Furukawa was accompanied by Kenny Omura, a longtime resident and businessman in Pohnpei. The meeting highlighted DNC’s longstanding contributions to infrastructure development across Oceania and its ongoing commitment to the Federated States of Micronesia.
During the visit, Mr. Furukawa expressed his gratitude to Governor Joseph for the opportunity to discuss DNC’s work and future endeavors. He provided an overview of the company’s extensive experience in the region, noting DNC’s completion of more than 50 aid projects across seven Pacific nations. Among these was the construction of the Palikir Campus at the College of Micronesia in Pohnpei, with Phase I and Phase II successfully completed in 1995.
Governor Joseph thanked Mr. Furukawa and Mr. Omura for their continued interest in supporting Pohnpei’s development. The Governor emphasized the pressing need for critical infrastructure projects on the island, including improvements to the sewer system, inland roads, and the construction of a new waste management site. He welcomed DNC’s interest in contributing to these projects, noting the positive impact that such collaborations can bring to the people of Pohnpei.
The meeting concluded on a positive and collaborative note, with both parties expressing optimism about future opportunities. Governor Joseph and Mr. Furukawa agreed to explore further possibilities for cooperation through the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), ensuring that the partnership between DNC and Pohnpei continues to grow for the benefit of the community.
