About the Micronesian Island Forum Secretariat

The Micronesian Islands Forum (MIF) Secretariat was originally named the “Micronesia Center for a Sustainable Future” and was created to serve as the Secretariat of the “Micronesia Chief Executives’ Summit” (MCES).

This organization had a wide spectrum of functions, to include Secretarial duties to the MCES, but also sub-regional development responsibilities under its strategic plan.

When the Leaders decided to reboot and change the name to the Micronesian Islands Forum, they chose to also change the name of its Secretariat to not only simplify its functions and to limit it to Secretarial duties, but to match the name of the Mother organization of Micronesian leaders.

What the MIF Secretariat Does

The MIF Secretariat is the Implementation arm of the Micronesian Islands Forum, working with jurisdictional members to implement the goals and objectives, as well as directives of the Leaders of the MIF, as enunciated at the Annual Meeting through the promulgation of a MIF Communique, Letters and Resolutions.

The MIF Secretariat meets twice a year with Designated Representatives of each Jurisdictions Leaders to follow through on these initiatives and to prepare for the Annual Meeting.

The Micronesian Islands Forum Secretariat is an Organization which plans for, and enhances, the quality of life throughout its member states while preserving each states diverse culture.

Our Vision

Is of a sub-regional inter-governmental organization committed to helping create a healthy, prosperous region for current and future generations.

We will work to assist the heads of states and governments in Micronesia develop and implement local and sub-regional programs of action.

We understand the integral nature of policy development, implementation, economic activity and interpersonal relationships.

The report of the global conference on the Sustainable Development of Small Islands Developing States issued by the United Nations General Assembly – The Barbados Programme of Action – is our basis of advocacy and action.

We are committed to local and sub-regional empowerment as a means to global sustainability
