Courtesy Call on Governor Stevenson A. Joseph by H.E. Wu Wei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia

Kolonia, Pohnpei: January 24, 2024 – Today, His Excellency Wu Wei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Stevenson A. Joseph at the Governor’s temporary Office in Kolonia. Warm exchanges and fruitful discussions on matters of mutual interest and cooperation marked the meeting.

Governor Joseph extended a heartfelt welcome to Ambassador Wei and his esteemed delegation, expressing gratitude on behalf of the people of Pohnpei for the continuous support and assistance provided by the People’s Republic of China. He particularly acknowledged China’s contributions to infrastructure projects such as the Luhkop road and Kahmar bridge, emphasizing the positive impact on Pohnpei’s development.

Ambassador Wei congratulated Governor Joseph on his dedicated service and the vision he brings to his administration. Reiterating the One China policy, Ambassador Wei mentioned potential cooperation projects between Pohnpei and Pohnpei’s sister state in China, Zhejiang Province. He highlighted innovative solutions, such as a trash processing plant in Guangzhou generating electricity without producing odors.

Governor Joseph expressed gratitude for the information shared by Ambassador Wei, emphasizing its potential to address pressing needs in Pohnpei. He reaffirmed support for the FSM National Government’s One-China Policy and discussed the urgent need for transportation infrastructure for the outer islands.
