Nett, Pohnpei: February 23, 2024- The Pohnpei State Gymnasium was filled with energy and accomplishment as Student Takeover Day 2024 concluded with a memorable closing ceremony. The event, designed to provide high school students with a firsthand experience of government operations, recognized both students and employers for their valuable participation.
Governor Stevenson A. Joseph delivered heartfelt remarks, extending gratitude to all participants, including representatives from the National Government, Pohnpei State Executive and Legislative branches, Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (PUC), FSM Telecommunications Corporation (FSMTC), Pohnpei Port Authority (PPA), and UNICEF. The collaborative efforts of these organizations contributed to the success of this important initiative.
Governor Joseph expressed his appreciation for the dedication and enthusiasm displayed by both students and employers throughout the day. He stated, “I encourage you to carry the lessons learned during this one day of government experience into your future endeavors.” The Governor emphasized that the seeds of leadership have been sown within each student, and he encouraged them to nurture this potential as they move forward in their academic and professional journeys.
Looking towards the future, Governor Joseph proposed the addition of a Job Fair to next year’s Student Takeover Day. This enhancement would provide students with the opportunity to meet and engage with a diverse array of employers, further enriching their understanding of potential career paths and opportunities.
The closing ceremony concluded with the recognition of outstanding participants, symbolizing the collective commitment to fostering leadership and civic engagement among Pohnpei’s youth.
