KOLONIA, Pohnpei, FSM: August 9, 2024 — Governor Stevenson A. Joseph participated in a significant event hosted by the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (PUC) at South Park today, marking a milestone in the state’s workforce development. The event was attended by Nixon Anson, CEO of PUC, Joseph Felix, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Phyllis Silbanuz, Dean of the College of Micronesia-FSM CTEC campus.
During the event, a certificate of completion was presented to a MR. JIMMY PELEP who completed an apprenticeship program as an Electrician, certified by the U.S. Department of Labor. This achievement represents the ongoing commitment of PUC and its partners to enhancing the local workforce’s skills in alignment with Pohnpei’s development goals.
Governor Joseph praised the initiative, noting that this apprenticeship program is a shining example of how we can build local capacity, ensuring that Pohnpei is equipped with skilled professionals ready to meet our growing infrastructure needs.
In addition to celebrating the apprentice’s success, Governor Joseph had the opportunity to meet with two newly hired engineers at PUC. The Governor commended their commitment to strengthening PUC’s capacity and contributing to the state’s long-term development.
The event underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between government, educational institutions, and public utilities in fostering a skilled workforce that can drive Pohnpei’s progress. Governor Joseph reiterated his administration’s support for such initiatives, which are crucial for the sustainable growth and prosperity of the state.
