Pohnpei, March 4, 2024 – Governor Stevenson Joseph delivered inspiring remarks at the opening day of the Women’s Week Conference Workshop today, setting the tone for the upcoming Pohnpei International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024. The Women’s Week events, leading up to the public holiday, are organized by the Pohnpei Women’s Council, a dedicated group committed to empowering and celebrating women in the region.

Governor Joseph addressed a distinguished audience at the Tuna Commission conference, including prominent women leaders such as the First Lady, Dr. Aina Garstang, H.E. Jo Cowley, Australian Ambassador to the FSM and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in the FSM, and H.E. Jennifer L. Johnson, U.S. Ambassador to the FSM and Mrs. Emy Musrasrik-Carl, President of the Pohnpei Women’s Council.

During his remarks, Governor Joseph extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Pohnpei Women’s Council for their outstanding leadership and dedication in organizing these significant events. He commended the Council’s consistent efforts in bringing awareness to important issues and recognized the public holiday’s observance in its second year.

Emphasizing the significance of collaboration with non-governmental organizations, Governor Joseph highlighted the importance of addressing local issues comprehensively and effectively from the community level up. He expressed gratitude for the support of the two Ambassadors, recognizing their crucial roles in advancing the initiative, and looked forward to their continued guidance.

Governor Joseph, a father of four daughters, shared a personal perspective, expressing his hope that this initiative would continue to provide a platform for women to seek help, guidance, and advice in their future endeavors.
