Pohnpei Women’s Council Extends Courtesy Visit to Governor Stevenson A. Joseph, Discusses Preparations for Pohnpei International Women’s Day

Kolonia, Pohnpei: February 21, 2024 – President Emy Musrasrik-Carl, Secretary Bernolina Hedson, and Maria Donre, representing the Pohnpei Women’s Council (PWC), paid a courtesy visit to Governor Stevenson A. Joseph to extend congratulations and discuss preparations for the upcoming Pohnpei International Women’s Day.

President Musrasrik-Carl began the meeting by congratulating Governor Joseph on his election and commitment to the well-being of the people of Pohnpei. The discussions then shifted to the Pohnpei International Women’s Day, a significant and upcoming public holiday that celebrates the achievements and contributions of women in the state.

President Musrasrik-Carl highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Pohnpei Women’s Council. The Council plays a crucial role in facilitating and organizing activities for Pohnpei International Women’s Day, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and empowering women in the community. President Musrasrik-Carl also noted that while PWC’s role is crucial, Women’s Day should be a State-driven event.

Accompanying the Pohnpei Women’s Council were Mr. Santos Abraham and Ms. Serleen Jimmy from the Division of Social Services, the responsible state agency overseeing the event. They provided insights into the preparations and long-term plans for the celebration.

Governor Joseph expressed his appreciation for the dedication of the Pohnpei Women’s Council and the Division of Social Services in organizing such a meaningful event. He affirmed his support for initiatives that promote gender equality and celebrate the achievements of women in Pohnpei.

The meeting concluded with a gift of a handcrafted dolphin to Governor Joseph and a sense of optimism and collaboration, showcasing the commitment of both the government and the Pohnpei Women’s Council to uplift and empower women in the community.
